Darren Hayman used to be in Hefner and did 12 sessions for John Peel. Though he hardly ever talks about it. Since that band he has released 20 album about increasingly nuanced subjects relating to the British landscape. He wrote a trilogy of records set in Essex that dealt with New Towns, Dogging and the East Anglian Witch Trials. On stage he thinks he's a bit funny.

His musical journey began with getting discovered by Ray Davies in 1974 and has included a BBC ban for being Glad To be Gay, rocking against racism alongside The Clash, headlining Glastonbury with Peter Gabriel, writing lyrics for Elton John, drug smuggling in East Germany, two nervous breakdowns and a period in tabloid hell after falling in love with a woman. Having made his peace with the BBC, he's presented programmes on all the corporation's national radio networks, and his broadcasting work has won two Sony Radio Academy awards. On Heard A Long Gone Song, Lisa has recorded a gorgeously world-weary interpretation of The Pogues’ Lullaby Of London; a line from which gave the album its title.
